5 Months On.......

It's been a while since I posted here.

After 5 months my injury feels pretty good. Just about all the neural pain is gone now. Sometimes I can feel it a little if I have been sitting in the same position for a long time. But, apart from that, my back feels good.

Today I tested my self and found I could sit down, legs out straight and touch my toes. This is the first time I have been able to do this after my injury almost 1 year ago.

Good progress!!! Will I return to martial arts????

End of the Line

Due to the nature of my injury I'm not going to do martial arts anymore.

The CT Scan revealed a disc bulging near my spinal cord. If I'm not careful the disc could touch the spinal cord causing further damage.

That's it.

It was a short journey and like a lot of other people, it has come to an abrupt end. I've seen others suffer broken collar bones and broken wrists and never come back. I never thought it would happen to me.

You should think carefully about getting involved in martial arts.... while your training everyone is OK, but as soon as you get hurt, noone wants to know about it.

Injury Report

This blog is turning into an injury blog instead of a martial arts blog.

I guess that's part of training, unfortunately.
I have to get some x-rays done next week. The doctor wants a CT Scan & X-Ray of my lower spine.

Hell only knows what I've done to myself.

I guess I can only stay positive and keep you posted. OSU.

Realignment

Things are not so good I'm afraid.

I've been back to the physio because I feel like my back has just plateaued and not completely healed. The physio discovered a pelvic rotation, that means my pelvis is out of alignment.

They realigned everything and I've been a bit sore for the last two days. I have to see them again next week. I have to be careful and not do anything strenuous as it could slip the pelvis back out again.

This is so frustrating, to be so close to a goal and to be held back so far.

I'm thinking of my future, my health is my first priority. OSU.

End of Year

I passed my grading OK & am now having a break.

Next year I should achieve my 1st Dan. My back feels good, I've been swimming in the ocean.

Looking forward to the new year. OSU.

Another One Down

Well, another grading down, another one next month.

Everything went as per normal. The steps are pretty straight forward, I find.
There's no great surprises. My back feeling it today but.

I guess I can take it easy now and check in with the physio next week.

The dojo will be closing over the Christmas break anyway. Hopefully by next year I will be fully recovered and ready for a new year. OSU.

Shinsa Time

I've been training well and I will grade tomorrow.

I'm sure I'll do well, I don't have many techniques to do. Just yonkajo from shomen, yokumen & katate-mochi. Also, irimi-nage from katate-mochi, kata-mochi, shomen, yokumen.

That's about it. Not too much. Tomorrow awaits. OSU.
